The Asurini-Awaeté Carbon Project aims to halt deforestation and its associated greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in an area under deforestation pressure in the Koatinemo Indigenous Territory (388,000 ha). The objective of the project is to conserve the Asurini-Awaeté people territory and to contribute to the preservation of their lifestyle and traditions, guaranteeing protagonism, autonomy and self-determination.

The Amazon basin is the biggest tropical rainforest, hosting 10% of worldwide biodiversity. In this context, the project aims to support and strengthen the Asurini’s Terrestrial and Environmental Management Plan and is divided into four main thematic axes: Territorial Management (Protection and Sustainable use of natural resources); Health, Education and Culture; and Economic Diversification and Regenerative Value Chains.
