French forests have suffered from repeated fires in recent years, decimating 72 000 ha in 2022 alone; and the phenomenon should only increase over the coming years. hummingbirds and Alliance Forêts Bois have joined forces to restore forest plots burnt along the French west coast.
The Falbala Project will aggregate ~10 forest plots spread across Occitanie, Nouvelle-Acquitaine and Normandie for a total area of 100 ha. hummingbirds will finance the full implementation of a first reforestation operation during the plantation campaign of 2023. Each plot will be considered individually to choose an adapted mix of species, aiming at improving the area's resiliency and recreating habitat for the local biome. Alliance Forêts Bois being a strong actor of the French wood value chain, the Falbala Project also targets plantations which will ultimately answer to local needs of wood. The forest management will be led according to the PEFC criteria.
