Clean cookstoves distribution program in Uganda

In Africa, 4 out of 5 people cook on open fires using wood, charcoal, animal dung, or agricultural waste. This contributes to more than 3 million annual deaths from indoor air pollution, according to WHO 2020 data. The Ugali project addresses this crisis by providing 190,000 clean, efficient cookstoves that transform homes, improve health, and reduce pressure on forest resources in Northern Uganda. The main objectives are to reduce the wood and charcoal consumption of rural households, improve indoor air quality to improve people's health, and lower fuelwood collection and cooking time for women. Strategically located near the Mount Kei reforestation project, the Ugali project creates synergies for comprehensive environmental impact by preserving both the forest reserve and the plantation initiatives, while empowering women through time savings that allow for education, entrepreneurship, and family activities.
