Reforestation and Afforestation in Brazil

Sapucaia Sustainable Forests (SSF) project will restore over 10.000 hectares of degraded land with its innovative 3-level restoration approach: mixed-native forestry, agroforestry and ecological restoration. SSF will be certified under the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS), Climate, Community and Biodiversity standard (CCB), and Forest Stewardship Council (FSC).

The Sapucaia Sustainable Forests project aims at restoring 10,000 hectares of degraded pasturelands by integrating: regenerative silviculture, agroforestry and ecological restoration, generating high-quality Voluntary Carbon Units while bolstering native timber bioeconomy. This will contribute to revitalize and protect High Conservation Value areas, enhance the connectivity of fragmented Brazilian Atlantic Forest remnants, which are classified as a biodiversity hotspot and directly expand the habitat of the endangered Golden Lion Tamarin. With the combined expertise of the partners and an end-to-end service, over 4,4 mtCO2eq are expected to be removed from the atmosphere for 40 years, 100 permanent jobs will be created to implement the project at scale and potentially 26 IUCN threatened species will have their habitat improved by the project's activities.
