The project focuses on avoiding GHG emissions from deforestation through forest conservation including ranger patrols and boundary demarcation, biodiversity monitoring alongside initiatives to improve local livelihoods through sustainable rice production, micro-credit programs, and scholarship distribution.

The aim is to protect the area from land encroachment and forest degradation from agricultural conversion, illegal logging and wildlife poaching. Situated in a biodiversity hotspot and recognized as a Key Biodiversity Area, the project also holds a strong ecological value, prioritizing the conservation of biodiversity, with dedicated monitoring of flagship species and their habitats. Supported by Earthshot Labs, the project is on track to be registered and issue its first high-quality carbon credits in 2026. Over the next 40 years, more than 11.6 mtCO2eq emissions are expected to be avoided from being released into the atmosphere. The sanctuary protects the habitat of 43 IUCN-threatened species, including Giant Ibis, White Shouldered Ibis, Red-headed vulture, and Eld’s deer. Additionally, the project will create 20 permanent jobs, and as part of its Sustainable Livelihoods Program distribute 20 scholarships, support sustainable agriculture (Ibis Rice) in 4 villages, and offer 16 micro-credits annually, sustaining these benefits for four decades.
